If the software is what I think it is, no they don't unless they want to
patch the code. Given that non-8bit-clean mail software should be taken out
back and shot the sooner the better (and RFC 2822 isn't quite as fearfull
of the dreaded eight bit as RFC 822 is), I'd guess they don't consider it a
sufficiently high priority for that. I know I certainly wouldn't have...

This is flamewar material[0] -- I'd argue as, if not more, vociferously
against that as you probably would for it! -- so perhaps better not go
there...
[0] - It never brings any consensus on any list; one side may "win",
but only by sheer attrition...
Perhaps you could turn on the pref to make Eudora delete duplicates?

I think you forgot to include the crucial "In my opinion..." qualifier
here. I have no clue what Apple's "needs" are, but I know I've discarded
all three of those every time I've looked at them because they didn't fill
all of my modest needs.

We've gotten to a point where a human-readable, human-editable text format
for structured data has become a complex nightmare where somebody can safely
say "As many threads on xml-dev have shown, text-based processing of XML is
