Perhaps I should have been clear that this is not a subject that is open to debate, nor is it a welcome topic of discussion on this mailing list.

To address your (implied) questions individually:

That's all very well, but this problem has persisted since the list began and

1. I find it hard to believe you don't have an option to disable the transliteration

You're welcome to go and read the documentation for the software itself if you don't believe us, but that won't change the fact that the situation is, in fact, the way I described.

(not to speak of adding a Reply-To line so we don't need to get two copies of half the messages when subscribers get lazy).

Our reasons for doing this are in the site FAQ.

2. When there are several long-established and highly reliable packages such as listserv, Majordomo, and EIMS (once the "APPLE Internet Mail Server") that are more than adequate to service all your lists and provide all the logging and archiving you need, I can't understand why you need to be beta-testing a product that has such an inglorious history.

We appreciate your critique of our mailing list service. We regret that we cannot please 100% of our list members -- though we do strive to -- and are certainly happy that we are able to please the overwhelming majority. If the free service we provide does not suit your needs, you are more than welcome to seek out another service that does so, with our apologies that we could not meet your requirements.

Again, do not continue this thread. You are welcome to address further concerns with me privately, off-list. This is off-topic, and I'm certain it is not appreciated by members of the list who intend to use it for its legitimate purpose.
