This step is necessary, IME. Otherwise, believe me, I wouldn't be asking it, and I wouldn't have invested the cash in getting Maclink. I don't have MSWord on my machine. (Well, I do, but the version being used - 5.1 - isn't scriptable.)

Word 5.1 can open .rtfs.

I won't say anything more as you obviously want to open the .rtfs via MacLink Plus and to script the process.
