But the best beginning book, if you don't already have any programming
experience (in which case the O'Reilly's Nutshell book is best) is Danny
Goodman's AppleScript Handbook, 2nd ed., available from amazon.com. Not for
applications - it's far too out of date. but for learning the AppleScript
language, it's clearest, engaging, and a well-planned cumulative narrative.
Up to the end of part II, p. 310.
