Sure, we should revoke the ability of everybody to file class action suits
so that Ken Lay and all those other cronies get to keep the shareholder
money. Or maybe we could just threaten to arrest the process servers like
Dick Cheney did on Friday. I'm sure eliminating the suits altogether will
restore confidence in the markets.
I'm sure class actions are abused, just like anything else in the world.
Do you think the world would be better off without them? What do you
propose to do to corporations which act with impunity to screw the public?
I've got news for you, corporations are imperfect just like class actions
because they're creations of human beings and we aren't by any means
perfect - myself included.
I actually hold stock in Apple. Do you?
Do you know there are 50 different laws regulating false advertising and
consumer fraud? Do you have complete and perfect information about all the
state variations? As a shareholder, I honestly worry what kind of
liabilities the company has incurred by changing its iTools policy after
advertising it as a part of the OS on the back of the box, regardless of
the fine print inside the box. People don't get to read that contract
before they buy it, but this gets to the whole can of UCITA worms. Is
software a service or a product?
Sorry, John. You're not aware how complex the law is on the subject.
As to changing existing legal regimes to suit your ideological views, good
luck. I'm merely making an observation that it's a problem for the company
and I don't think they've thought out the extent to which they may have
exposed themselves through prior advertising campaigns.
And, despite what Apple says, scripts that do nothing more than manipulate
files on 8.5/8.6 still won't compile for the latest version of Applescript
and CDs burned using the list view still don't open up properly and remain
difficult to navigate more than a year later. This isn't an issue of the
user interface, it's one of backward compatibility.
