Dannis,

If you are already using APC brand UPS's, specifically the
ones with monitoring capabilities, then there is a version
of PowerChute from APC to handle this sort of thing for
you. AppleScript is useful for quiting most apps, but there
can be applications which do not support AppleScript (or
don't support the quit command explicitly, such as FoxPro).
Similiarly, QuicKeys can be scripted to go through a quit
command sequence for any application, and can be triggered
by applescript, thus giving you coverage for those apps
which don't support AS or the 'quit' command through AS.
