I agree. I find it shameful that Avie at al are trying to stop Macintosh users from using the advantages they've developed over the years. Aliases instead of pathnames. HFS metatdata instead of file extensions.

Mac OS X still has a long way to go before it's as pleasant to use as Mac OS 9, although not crashing the system is very nice in and of itself.

My hope is that Apple will now be able to improve on the unix experience by injecting some Macintosh into it. They could start by moving cpMac into cp. The fact that they haven't tells us a lot about their vision for Unix.

Of course, more likely we'll get a new version of vi for the Mac.
