David,

I can open mine OK (10.2 x Illustrator 10)
I had a similar problem with Photoshop 6 awhile ago, I ended up reisntalling
it and everything went back to normal.

Make sure you have all plugins, etc in their right places, especially one
called 'scripting support' - if not, reinstall.

When I try to open up the Adobe Illustrator (10 for OS X) dictionary
I get a completely blank file, yet supposedly the application is
scriptable.

Does anyone else have this problem, and is there a solution to it?
