I saw it mentioned on another list that some embedded speech commands are
broken in OS X, specifically 'pmod' & 'pbas', which control pitch modulation
and baseline pitch.
A quick check confirmed this. The 'pbas' command only seems to affect
'musical' voices (eg, "Cellos") while the pmod command doesn't seem to do
anything at all. To demonstrate, the two scripted speech samples below are
quite distinct from each other when the script is run in OS 9.1, but sound
identical in OS X 10.2.1.
say "[[pmod 10]] Good morning!" using "Fred"
say "[[pmod 100]] Good morning!" using "Fred"
...or alternatively, use [[pbas 20]] & [[pbas 60]].
What gives?
Mr Tea
