I was starting where he got lost. I'll try again.
you can search for all types of files from Aqua
choose
Finder > Go > Go to Folder
enter the main directory you want to search, e.g.
//usr
when you enter the main directory, click the Go button on the lower
right hand corner.
a directory window will open showing the subdirectories of the
directory you entered.
at the upper right hand corner of the file viewer is an oval
text-editing field to enter the filename you are looking for (it says
Search underneath). enter the filename (or partial name) and press
return
