What do you mean by "enter the main directory"? Are you talking about the "Go to folder" window? That is not a directory window, it is dialog box.

a directory window will open showing the subdirectories of the directory you entered.

OK. It's more properly called a folder window, and it contains the files and folders inside that folder.
