How to get icon size of desktop icons

I am trying to write an applescript that sets the icons size of the icons on
the desktop (not the desktop folder in my user folder). I am running on
10.3.1.
Using the Script Debugger explorer, it looks like there is no icon view
options for the desktop as there is for regular finder windows.
Is it possible to get and set these values?
