AS 1.8.3 is quite compatible with OS9.1...that's my home combination, and
has been for years.
The only side-effect that I've ever noticed is that Smile will occassionally
quit when opening a dictionary of a running application. (This does not
appear to affect Finder 9.)
Downgrading to AS 1.6 breaks some of my scripts that write to, or read from,
the file system.
I did see the OP's later reply to Emmanuel, saying that _downgrading_ to
AS1.6 fixed his problem. As each combination of scripting additions, OS,
and AS make each install slightly different, I am not disputing that the
OP's problems are fixed by the downgrade. I am suggesting, however, that it
may not have _precisely_ to do with AS 1.6 vs AS 1.8.3 ... more with a
combination of factors for which the AS version acts as a stabilizing
element.
