Well, its AppleScripting (AS 1.9.2) is already much more mature than
OS 10.2.8's (AS 1.9.1). Much. They fixed maybe 100 long-standing
bugs and limitations.
I hadn't realized that. Is there a list somewhere?
What are you waiting for? OS 10.3.1 is also generally much more
mature than 10.2.8 - you could think of it as 10.2.23 if it makes you
feel better. Have you heard of many bugs with 10.3.1 that would
affect the operation of your computer? Or is it just a sort of
general practice or superstition?
It's a general practice. You can always tell the pioneers. They're
the ones with the arrows sticking out all over. I waited for Jaguar
before I moved to OS X and I'm glad I did. I'm happy with it the way
it is and don't feel the need to have the newest toy on the block. The
hottest thing in Panther, to my mind, is Exposi. I can wait.
Meanwhile I have scripts that will hide everything so I can see the
desktop. As little as I care about appearances, I like the Aqua look
more than the brushed metal thing.
Any bugs in 10.3.1 are likely to be with _new_, mostly optional, OS
features which you can simply avoid using. If you know of any which
would mess up your your workflow, OK, hang on. But 10.3.1 actually
fixes far more Jaguar limitations than it introduces. Like Steve Jobs
said, OS X makes it much easier for the Apple programmers to do their
own developing.
Right after Panther came out and I heard about the mess with FileVault
and firewire external drives I decided that they'd hurried it onto the
street without adequate testing. FileVault is a good idea with a
miserable implementation. Knowing how easily files can get corrupted I
wouldn't want to put my whole home directory into one file.
