If you are using Apple's beta GUI Scripting software introduced a while ago,
you installed System Events 2.0. The installer renamed the old System Events
as "System Events 1.1.1" and left it in the /System/Library/CoreServices
directory.
Mac OS X 10.2.4 includes a new version of System Events, version 1.1.2.
However, it is NOT installed by the Mac OS X 10.2.4 installer if you have
installed the new System Events 2.0 beta and your old System Events app was
renamed as described above.
The AppleScript terminology dictionary in System Events 1.1.2 is unchanged
from 1.1.1. I don't know what improvements are in 1.1.2, but presumably
there are some (see the next paragraph for my best guess). If you ever want
to uninstall System Events 2.0 and revert to the new System Events 1.1.2
instead of 1.1.1, Apple's uninstaller script that came with the GUI
Scripting beta won't do it. You will either need a new uninstaller script
from Apple, or you will have to run the old uninstaller script and then
reinstall the Mac OS X 10.2.4 updater, or you will have to learn how to
extract System Events 1.1.2 from the Mac OS X 10.2.4 installer package and
install it in the CoreServices directory using root permission.
I notice that one of the bug fixes listed in the Mac OS X 10.2.4 release
notes is that Folder Actions no longer uses up excessive disk space. Folder
Actions are implemented in the System Events app, as I understand it. It
seems likely, therefore, that an important improvement introduced in System
Events 1.1.2 is this Folder Actions bug fix. I would guess this means that
if you continue to use GUI Scripting and System Events 2.0 beta, you will
not enjoy the benefits of this bug fix until GUI Scripting becomes final or
Apple releases a new beta version of System Events 2.0.
