Well, not exactly...


It doesn't worry *me* that much, since there is a workround. But why hasn't
such a fundamental hook into the Unix world not been implemented? Why should
a novice -- indeed, any -- AppleScripter have to resort to the shell for
such a thing?

I think I've seen only shell solutions for the long name, but there are these:

system attribute "USER" -- shortname

path to "cusr" -- current homer folder
