No, it doesn't. It doesn't speak volumes.
AppleScript is "A peer to the Aqua GUI" and "the language interface for Mac
OS X" (<
http://www.apple.com/applescript/developers/>).
OSX is a multiuser system.
But AppleScript itself has no way to find out which user is currently logged
in.
It doesn't worry *me* that much, since there is a workround. But why hasn't
such a fundamental hook into the Unix world not been implemented? Why should
a novice -- indeed, any -- AppleScripter have to resort to the shell for
such a thing?

I didn't say that, as you'll see if you go back to my message. AppleScript
the language appears to be alive and well at Apple, and well supported by
many other companies applications.

Finder's dictionary?
No, I don't think so. But how quickly is it happening? We're on 10.2.6 and
the Finder's "add to favorites" command is still "NOT AVAILABLE YET". But
Apple consider Favorites important enough to include it in every open and
save dialog box, in the Finder's "Go" menu, in the default window toolbar...
What about System Preferences? Where is AS support in Final Cut Pro? We can
all come up with examples, they are here on the list every day.
As I said, I hope Bill is right. I hope

I hope that the Application Groups at Apple get this. *All* of them. They
are AppleScript's shop window and, and the moment, they are selling one of
Apple's strengths short.
