I really think it's due to AppleScript Studio. A lot of people can
write simple tools/applications with little to no programming
experience. The best thing about it is the ability to interact with the
CLI and most importantly it's included with the OS. Which means you
don't have to buy other Languages/Development environments like
Revolution or REALBasic.

I have noticed a marked upturn in private e-mails to my AppleScript

I've used the incoming newbie e-mail rate for years as an informal
barometer
of the popularity of our scripting language. I'm always delighted to
see an
upturn. I wonder what it's due to, this time around. Any ideas?
