I really think it's due to AppleScript Studio. A lot of people can write simple tools/applications with little to no programming experience. The best thing about it is the ability to interact with the CLI and most importantly it's included with the OS.

Is there a good hard copy reference for AppleScript Studio. I've downloaded Apple's documentation, but I'm loathe to use a ream of paper to print it, and I find that reading it on the computer just doesn't work for me. (I'm like that with all manuals, actually; that's why I bought a print copy of the ASLG.)
