Based on what I've read, I suspect the idea of "seven original
tribes" is a fiction.
Some generic forms seem to resist factuality. This one seems to be a
morphing of the "seven tribes of Israel" mentioned in the bible. This
sort of superimposition of generic tropes onto the unknown exerts a
powerful force on credulous imaginations. The "new age" product lines
are designed to take advantage of the imaginative polytheism that can
irrupt from these "coincidences that aren't coincidences".
