Checking the dictionary, it doesn't appear that there's any way to get
selected text of a message.
Even when viewing a message in its own window, 'selection' returns the
message ID of the selected message in the Mail Viewer rather than the
selected text in the front window as you might expect.
Consequently, the only way I can see to get around this is to use the
clipboard, oh... except that Mail doesn't support any standard clipboard
commands which means, yet again, you'd have to resort to UI Scripting <urgh>
Or, use a mail program that has a workable AppleScript implementation. I
can't imagine anything more intuitive than "get selection" which works
entirely as expected in Entourage, returning text or a message ID, depending
on what is actually selected.
