I gave up trying. There are a few who come to the trough because
they know that scripts can save them lots of time, and they get
excited when they get a script that helps them. But they are, to
quote someone whose name I can't recall right now, "self-igniting".
For the great majority who don't understand or who resist change, of
who feel a loss of control, I just don't bother any more. I do
solutions for the local Mac dealer that are very rewarding for his
clients (and pay well), but he knows the value scripts have and
recommends them to his clients when he sees the need. Otherwise I
write them to help me improve my own productivity here at school. I
show them to others, but unless they are interested enough to ask if
they can have them, then I don't bother trying to get people to use
them. I don't have any of the salesman in me. I'd actually enjoy
doing more commercial scripting work (time permitting), but only for
people who want it and know they want it. I don't want to have to
sell anyone on it.
I can relate to the frustration you feel though. When I was working
with Nortel I used to generate new tools and work aids quite
frequently, and there was a reluctance among some to accept and use
them. Some folks just don't like change. Don't know what you do about
it. Hell, sometimes I don't like change.
