I once wrote [in Lisp] a syntactic analyzer for Arab -- another semitic language -- and learned that this XXX string is called a scheme. Actually, the vowels can easily be retrieved from context and word position in the sentence. For instance, the scheme "ktb" means "write", and can be instanciated as "book", "writer" or "wrote" depending on the context.
