Basically I'd like to find an AppleScript solution to bootstrap a
process when Mail starts. This script will need to "do shell script"
inside, and the process running in background will quit when Mail
quits.

Would it be enough simply to "tell app "Mail" to run" as part of your script and only start Mail by means of the script, or does it have to be bulletproof?
