There's no real workaround aside from trying until you get a real answer.

Wait, I forgot! There's no workaround for Finder itself, but
depending on what you're doing, you may be able to use System Events
instead.

Great!
About 3 ms! (with the same test as in my previous mail)
(i.e just over 2 times slower than a single asynchronous "unsafe"
Finder call, but now using a guaranteed synchronous call.)
Just a double check: please just say yes or now to the following conjecture:
Current tests indicate that using System Events instead will also
solve another old problem I have had, namely: Assume the volume on a
remote computer is mounted on my computer (using Connect to Server)
and the volume/folder remains closed on both machines, and the remote
computer changes the file, e.g by doing a new 'save' of a document.
If I now, on my machine, use System Events to get the modification
date of the file inside the closed folder on the mounted volume, will
I always get the correct updated date?
My tests indicate that this is indeed the case, but it would be
very nice if I could just get that verified?
With the very warmest regards -- no more dripping tears; scripts and
mirrors will soon be happy again....
