I ask, because similar problems have recently been reported on this
list; and it seemed that a bug really is at work somewhere...
Identical data in an identically-named file, for sure. (It gets freshly
re-created each time I run the script.) I also wrote a separate, tiny
script that simply read the file. It also had the bug.
I'm also about 95% certain that I tried it on a different file and got
the same result.
FWIW, the problem first appeared right after I modified the routine
that creates the file, to put a telephone number into a field that had
previously been null. However, the problem persisted even when I
temporarily undid the modification.
