With the hope of clarification...
Since the firestorm on this list in March, Missing Link's method of
operation has been substantially changed. The old version (which was
shown by list members to have certain definite vulnerabilities) has been
removed from circulation. The current version is 2.01. If you find
time, take a look and please let me know (preferably off-list) if you see
potential vulnerabilities in this version.

Missing Link now handles local URLs in absolute form -
Protocol Name:Mac HD/Users/username/Library/Application
Support/Missing_Link_Support/User Approved Folder/File or Alias
...where the protocol name, disk name, short user name, approved folder
name and file name are all supplied by the user. In addition, the
'approved folder(s)' must in fact be manually created and then entered
via a dialog which sets a property within the Missing Link application.
If the URL address points anywhere but to a user approved folder, the URL
fails... with an 'invalid location' dialog.
Links relative to user approved folders may also be used, but in this
case, the protocol name, the approved folder name, and of course, the
target item name within the folder must all be supplied in the URL.
It is recommended that an approved folder _NOT_ be used as a direct
download folder... and that for obvious reasons, names of user approved
items _NOT_ be revealed casually.

I have found Missing Link to be of use locally... and thought others
might find it of use also... which is the only reason I've persisted with
it. I don't believe - in present form - it represents any sort of overt
security risk... but the question of its inherent utility remains open.
Anyways.
Thanks For Your Time.
