I'm glad you took it in good humour.
But, even with legitimate people who have properly registered domains, it's
a difficult proposition for Apple's server to instantly verify who I really
am.
That message went via a dial-up IP (as I'm using a modem from home), then it
was sent to our mail server in the studio and was then routed via another
network (because automatically balance the load between 2 different ISPs).
If the server relied on strict domain/IP resolution I'd have to register 3
separate addresses with the list just to get one message posted :(
Maybe we are too reliant on the fact that we are a community with very
specific and ultimately limited interests and are therefore of little
interest to spammers?
I'd certainly be interested in pursuing more robust defences against
spamming/abuse if Apple were to decide to instigate them. Even with the
filtering power of running our own mail servers I'm still having to deal
with a delivery rate to my inbox of around a 10:1 ratio of nuisance mail to
genuine stuff.
