How are the computers connected? Are they on the same subnet ?

Most of them, yes. At one point, yesterday I tried it from a different subnet though. Would a different subnet require more info in the "eppc://" call or the tell application "xxx" call?

The "network guys" can only close the connection on the gates if the communication is thru those gates.

I'm admittedly pretty ignorant to the mechanics of how signals get routed from one machine to another over a network, but was assuming since hackers can use software to "sniff" for open ports (if that's the right term), that "network guys" had software tools at their disposal that could "sniff" the specified port of a connection request and simply not deliver it.

I would try with two computers connected directly, then go from there. Also, everything I said is from X to X. Since I am running X and 8.6, I can not connect via AS 8.6->X but I *yes, can* connect X->8.6 using AS

OK, I'll try the direct connection idea today. If it still doesn't work, what might that indicate? FWIW all machines are running OS 9+ except the server (which is running 10.3.4)

Thanks again

Ken
