By default, ls(1) turns non-graphic characters into '?'. As far as
it's concerned, that includes non-ASCII characters like the curly quote
Jon used -- technically, it's a three-byte UTF-8 sequence, so you get
three question marks, and there you have it. Say "ls -v" to turn this
"feature" off and see the name unmolested.
