After you put the scripting addition in the trash, choose "Empty
Trash", and then choose "Secure Empty Trash"
This removes any files even if OS X thinks they are "In use"
(You choose the normal empty trash first since secure empty trash is
much slower if you have a full trash)
I would quit any scripting apps like SD or Script Editor before hand.
