If I manually save the Appleworks (.cwk) files as text, the script works fine. So I thought the easy way out would be to add a handler that would save the Applescript (.cwk) as text file, and all the scripts would work fine. Is there a better or more efficient way of handling this?

One way could be to store the text in a variable, and use Standard Additions' built-in file writing commands.
