I asked 3 german friends independantly: They all consider "Eszett" to be
correct, one even pointing to the official german spelling source
<http://www.duden.de/> claiming only Eszett to be 'correct' (and mentioning
that even Mac OS X's built-in spellchecker only accepts Eszett, not Eszet let
alone Esset :)). They all knew of the name "Ringel-s" but thought it somewhat
uncommon. All were surprised and even gigglish about "blaustaff". They all
agreed that "sharp s" is correct, 'though not official.

For one of my friends the immediate association was "Blaustrumpf", which
apparently is german for "dike" (in the homo-sexual sense, not in the water
defense system sense ;)). Might say more about her than about german of
course ;)
Some english pages naming it "Ringel-s" can be found through Google:
<http://www.google.com/search?q=german+language+"Ringel+s">
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ß> is also interesting. If only because it
clearly states and explains that "beta" is most definitely wrong and even
blames Mac OS! I guess that brings this thread somewhat back on topic ;)
