Entity Johnny AppleScript spoke thus:

I don't think that's it, because for me it's a lot easier to focus on a
high-contrast target. Especially with LCDs, which have less contrast to
begin with.

Eye fatigue is greatly minimized when looking at a black background and
colors have a greater relative contrast, especially on LCD. It's the biggest
reason I use Script Debugger, so I can set the background to black. Contrary
to popular belief, I don't do it to torture old-fashioned Mac users.

Unfortunately the computer was modeled after a sheet of paper so today we
have a black-on-white paradigm. This despite the fact that CRT's emit
electrons over the entire white portion of the screen and so are very
damaging to vision. When working on a CRT machine I wear purple shades so it
blocks the high-energy spectrum, I can spend hours staring at a CRT with no
eye fatigue this way.

Absolutely, the single-pixel-width default font is reminiscent of Windows
fonts and the green colors are in low contrast to the white background. The
tinyness of the font can be explained by legacy machines but mainly I think
Apple has not yet accepted the fact that most users now have large screen
LCDs.

Like in Script Debugger, you can change the background color and it changes
immediately. Script Editor has always been very minimal, I think it's just
lazy programming. I've realized that my applications that offer a black
background are the most enjoyable, for this reason I'll be moving away from
Entourage as soon as I find an email/usenet client I can set as black
background. Ideally there would be a systemwide setting for white-or-black
and all applications would follow this setting, but all us nocturnal people
get is the Universal Access "Invert screen" setting, which is stupid.
