can you cite a reference for that assertion? from my rough
understanding of the factors here, you'd need a black background on
everything (not just the SD window), and you'd need to modulate your
text colors down from the brightest available (e.g., use amber instead
of white) to get a reduction in eye fatigue.. a less drastic, yet more
complete, way to reduce eye fatigue is to match the overall brightness
of the display to the environment (which in turn should not be too
bright or too dark).. after doing that, one usually has reduced the
brightness of whites, and effectively lowered the contrast of black
text, and as long as that contrast is not too low, eye fatigue is
minimized for me (maximum contrast is not best, to my eyes at least)
i also prefer to edit code with darker colors (less difference between)
than most IDE defaults, except for comments which i tend to put in a
medium grey (so i can skip them more easily while scanning code.. of
course i complain when people want to watch TV in a dark room too ...
