Life is already full of such "Doh!" moments; the trick is avoiding as many unnecessary ones as you can. ;)
While online resources like MacScripter's FAQs are a help, IMHO you simply can't beat a folderful of text and code clippings: (or pencil, paper and ring binder, even) somewhere you can store useful information gleaned from transient sources like mailing lists and BBSes for your own future reference. 99% of this information is duller than dishwater, so if you don't maintain at least some sort of aide-memoire then you will forget it very quickly, guaranteed. Keeping written notes is one of the simplest and most powerful tools at your disposal, so make the most of it. Hey, y'don't think a sieve-brain like me gets where I am today without regularly jotting reminders on the back of my hand? :)
