Good question, but I still need the Finder because I have to use it to
make a new file on the desktop.
Just to reiterate the problem:
tell application "Finder" to get path to desktop as string
What version of AS are you using? That doesn't compile for me; I get "can't make desktop into an item."
But this works:
tell application "Finder" to get desktop as string
And it returns the full path from the disk:
"Macintosh HD:Users:mreed:Desktop:"
I'm using AS 1.9.3 on Mac OS X 10.3.9
result==>> "k8:Desktop:"
tell application "Finder" to get folder "k8:Desktop:"
result==>> "Finder got an error: Can't get folder \"k8:Desktop:\"."
And if I give it the actual location, it produces an error saying
"Can't get folder \"Desktop\" of folder \"k8\" of folder \"Users\" of
startup disk."
Note: "k8" is the name of the User, and it appears to be sitting
correctly in the User folder which is on the disk "Macintosh HD"
