Obviously the fact that it affects applications like cp and mv show that
it's not a Finder problem at all. But if we acknowlege that, and realize
it's a problem caused by something that would create the same symptoms in
the Finder and in cp/mv, then you don't get to have the OMGWTFFINDERSUCKS
title to your post.
Here's a hint...your own research shows quite clearly that this ain't a
problem the Finder's causing. Even better, the fact that, according to your
9 steps, that evidently you CAN copy VOB files via the finder and cp after
playing them for a short time, (steps 5 - 7 ), FURTHER shows that this is a
problem in neither the Finder OR cp/mv, but rather in a system component
common to them both.
Using ls -le only matters if you have ACLs turned on for your system, you
don't indicate if you have or not. Now, what you might try is running ls -l
after playing the DVD for a few seconds, when the copying works, and see if
anything changes there.
But your insistence, in spite of clear evidence that this isn't a Finder
problem, that it IS a Finder problem of some kind, tells me that while you
are possibly the greatest scripter whom ever lived, your troubleshooting
skills need some work, as you are prone to jump to conclusions about a
problem.
