If you confine your criticism to something as solid as the lack of
AppleScript support (and all recordability last I checked), then yes,
the finder has well deserved duct tape over its soft spots.
But then again, how demoable is AppleScripting the Finder, even if it
did work? Even though AppleScript seems one of the easiest things on
earth (well, on OS X) compared to doing anything else, aside from
Automater, it still scares the hell out of people. Because tell
application "Finder" to beep is too hard for them to understand. Yet
give them VisualBasic, and they become a script kiddie.

I don't know that everyone does, but because this is an AppleScript list,
and because the Finder is a poster boy for the "Do as I say, not as I do"
mentality for Apple's scripting support, it deserves pretty well all it gets
around here.
The people behind it might be the finest on earth, and they might be driven
by the most short-sighted managers in Cupertino, but whatever the reason,
its record with scripting is, well, pathetic.
Have a look at the dictionary: there's actually a command that includes the
words "(NOT AVAILABLE)" in the command itself. When was the last release
where the position property actually meant something? Who can keep track of
which versions have "duplicate ... with replacing" broken and which have
"move ... with replacing" broken? Then there are the workarounds required to
get a list of aliases. The current version of recording is pretty
entertaining, too.
