David,
Yes...agreed. I did what one might describe by saying "bite the
bullet"...and am currently in the process of converting my FileMaker GUI to
an ASStudio application. A lot of work, yes. A lot. (I must admit, I'm
having fun though!)
(I really, REALLY like the fact that command+(.)period does NOT break
scripts in ASStudio though ;-)
My very LARGE fear however, is this...With every update to Mac OS X, whether
a simple 10.x.x update or a entire upgrade (10.4), it seems that 'something'
changes with AppleScript. Now whether it is indeed AS, or just the OS, I
don't know. But it IS a fear, that I'd have to make some modifications to my
application code, just for the OS update/upgrade.
But I guess, considering myself a novice developer, that this is just part
of developing that everyone must deal with, at all levels, OS updates and
upgrades. And with taking the 'red pill' and finding the truth, or solution
by developing an AS GUI (versus a FM GUI), I'm willing to do that. With a
goal to make it work better, which should be a common goal of AS/Mac OS X,
well hey...I'm on board. (The term 'job security' comes to mind! ;-)
Cheers and best luck,
Jake
