Sounds like it.
>From what I can tell, it looks like Apple has abandoned file meta-info to
open files. The filename extension, previously a fallback method, is now the
only way Finder decides which application to open the file with.
This means I can no longer have 2 kinds of *.HTML files, resourceless text
files opening in my browser, and resourced files opening in my editor.
Finder ignores the difference.
In 10.3, any *.HTML file with a missing creator and filetype would open in
my browser and have the browser icon. In 10.4 ALL *.HTML files open in my
browser regardless of any other meta-data or resource fork.
Of course I can change the default app in the InfoWindow, but ONLY applying
the setting to all files. There is no way I can see to make Finder show an
icon depending on the file's creator.
I can still se the filetype and creator with an Applescript, but Finder
ignores this information. Apparently it's only retained now for non-Finder
uses.
All my Applescripts that relied on Finder to open the file in the correct
application are now broken.
These reports based on OS 10.4 installed on a new hard disk.
