I persisted in my search for talkie face, and I didn't find him. However, I did find the new Tiger version of the note icon! I suppose this is what the script menu ought to be using, but isn't for some reason.
display dialog space with icon (path to resource "AlertNoteIcon.icns" in bundle ((path to library folder from system domain as string) & "CoreServices:CoreTypes.bundle"))
The note icon is buried in a bundle along with a bunch of other cool icons. You can view these in finder by running this script:
tell application "Finder" activate set icon_window to make new Finder window tell icon_window set target to ((path to library folder from system domain as string) & "CoreServices:CoreTypes.bundle:Contents:Resources:") as alias set current view to icon view set toolbar visible to false end tell tell icon view options of icon_window set arrangement to arranged by name set shows icon preview to true set icon size to 128 end tell end tell
Or, to see how they all look in script dialog boxes, you can use this:
set core_icons to {"ADCReferenceLibraryIcon", "AFPServerIcon", "AlertCautionBadgeIcon", "AlertCautionIcon", "AlertNoteIcon", "AlertStopIcon", "AliasBadgeIcon", "AppleLogoIcon", "AppleMenuFolderIcon", "AppleMenuIcon", "AppleScriptBadgeIcon", "AppleTalkIcon", "AppleTalkZoneIcon", "ApplicationsFolderIcon", "ApplicationSupportFolderIcon", "AssistantsFolderIcon", "BackwardArrowIcon", "BurningIcon", "CDAudioVolumeIcon", "ClassicSystemFolderIcon", "ClippingPicture", "ClippingSound", "ClippingText", "ClippingUnknown", "ColorSyncFolderIcon", "ColorSyncProfileIcon", "ConnectToIcon", "ContextualMenuItemsFolderIcon", "ControlPanelDisabledFolderIcon", "ControlPanelFolderIcon", "DeleteAliasIcon", "DesktopFolderIcon", "GridIcon", "GroupFolder", "DeveloperFolderIcon", "DisconnectedFileServerIcon", "DocumentsFolderIcon", "dotMacNeighbourhoodIcon", "DropFolderIcon", "EjectMediaIcon", "ErasingIcon", "ExecutableBinaryIcon", "ExtensionsDisabledFolderIcon", "FavoriteItemsIcon", "FileVaultIcon", "FinderIcon", "FontsFolderIcon", "ForwardArrowIcon", "FTPServerIcon", "FullTrashIcon", "GenericApplicationIcon", "GenericDocumentIcon", "GenericEditionFileIcon", "GenericFileServerIcon", "GenericFolderIcon", "GenericFontIcon", "GenericNetworkIcon", "GenericPreferencesIcon", "GenericQuestionMarkIcon", "GenericRAMDiskIcon", "GenericSharedLibraryIcon", "GenericStationeryIcon", "GenericURLIcon", "GenericWindowIcon", "GroupIcon", "GuestUserIcon", "HelpFolderIcon", "HelpIcon", "HomeFolderIcon", "HTTPServerIcon", "iDiskGenericIcon", "iDiskUserIcon", "iMac", "InternetFolderIcon", "InternetLocationAFP", "InternetLocationFile", "InternetLocationFTP", "InternetLocationGeneric", "InternetLocationHTTP", "InternetLocationMAILTO", "InternetLocationNEWS", "InternetPlugInFolderIcon", "IPFileServerIcon", "KeepArrangedIcon", "KEXT", "LibraryFolderIcon", "LocalesFolderIcon", "LockedBadgeIcon", "LockedIcon", "MagnifyingGlassIcon", "MountedBadgeIcon", "MountedFolderIcon", "MovieFolderIcon", "MusicFolderIcon", "NetBootVolume", "NoFilesIcon", "NoFolderIcon", "NoWriteIcon", "OpenFolderIcon", "OwnedFolderIcon", "OwnerIcon", "PicturesFolderIcon", "PreferencesFolderIcon", "PrinterDescriptionFolderIcon", "PrinterDriverFolderIcon", "PrintMonitorFolderIcon", "PrivateFolderIcon", "ProtectedApplicationFolderIcon", "ProtectedSystemFolderIcon", "PublicFolderIcon", "ReadOnlyFolderIcon", "RecentApplicationsFolderIcon", "RecentDocumentsFolderIcon", "RecentItemsIcon", "RecentServersFolderIcon", "RightContainerArrowIcon", "ScriptingAdditionsFolderIcon", "ScriptsFolderIcon", "SharedBadgeIcon", "SharedFolderIcon", "SharingPrivsNotApplicableIcon", "SharingPrivsReadOnlyIcon", "SharingPrivsReadWriteIcon", "SharingPrivsUnknownIcon", "SharingPrivsWritableIcon", "ShortcutIcon", "ShutdownItemsDisabledFolderIcon", "SitesFolderIcon", "SmartFolderIcon", "SortAscendingIcon", "SortDescendingIcon", "StartupFolderIcon", "StartupItemsDisabledFolderIcon", "StatusBarCDROMIcon", "StatusBarTrashIcon", "SystemExtensionDisabledFolderIcon", "SystemFolderIcon", "TextEncodingsFolderIcon", "ThemesFolderIcon", "ToolbarAppsFolderIcon", "ToolbarCustomizeIcon", "ToolbarDeleteIcon", "ToolbarDocumentsFolderIcon", "ToolbarFavoritesIcon", "ToolbarMovieFolderIcon", "ToolbarMusicFolderIcon", "ToolbarPicturesFolderIcon", "ToolbarPublicFolderIcon", "TrashIcon", "UnknownFSObjectIcon", "UnlockedIcon", "Unsupported", "UserIcon", "UsersFolderIcon"}

You can also use various icon files from the resource bundles of other applications without launching or addressing the application itself. This is convenient if you want your script to be more portable from system to system through plain text. Here's a little show reel I put together of various icons that can be found on a typical Tiger install. I looked for talkie face but he was nowhere to be found. :(

Whatever happened to the Mac talkie face? Any way to get him back? What all icons are available, and how do I list them?
This is new, according to the AS 1.10 (Tiger only) release notes:
"The with icon parameter to the display dialog command now accepts an alias or file reference to a “.icns” file. [3437405]"
