Your point? There's nothing original in the idea of controlling applications by manipulating GUI elements programmatically; it's been done for years. If I understand correctly, MS's current accessibility technology, which has been around since Windows 95, does it. Heck, Macs did it back in System 6 days when multitasking was first introduced to allow apps to communicate with one another, as proper IPC support didn't arrive till System 7. It's totally kludgy but it's cheap - the poor man's IPC, if you like - so it regularly finds uses where better methods don't exist or would take more effort to use than the returns justify.
Anyway, all the article says, ignoring the usual PR puff, is that 1. MS are overhauling their current accessibility access (but they'rerationalizing/replacing a lot of OS stuff at the moment, so no big news there); and 2. they're proposing the new API as a cross-platform standard. #2 would certainly be of big interest to assistive technology developers if it works out, since it'd significantly reduce the amount of work involved in porting their applications, device drivers, etc. between OSes. Licensing/control issues may prevent wider adoption though; I guess we'll see.
