Wow, all great responses, THANKS!!!  Now I'll just have to digest them and
morph them into my script.

I'll respond soon with how I go (hopefully not with more questions coz I
can't quite get it  ;-D)

ps. as for reading, I've done quite a bit of it in the last week, mostly
from the online resources and Apple's ASLanguage guide. Unfortunately as
techo here I have to do just about everything in the studio from writing
studio procedures to new employee inductions to graphic production
assistance to training to daily software and hardware troubleshooting and
rollouts to budget justification submissions to purchasing to archiving to
nightly backups. Training courses are a luxury and being able to read a
manual from beginning to end is kinda not possible so I've had to borrow
other people's brains (Bill White has been an excellent help!!!) and
discernibly scan the references I have at my fingertips to create what I
need.
