You may have something of a point Ed, but I have to say that in the particular instance of finding a reliable, efficient way to do FTP, there's no question that curl is a better solution than URL Access. I was "scared" of do shell script for some time, but this is certainly one example where I'm very grateful that someone on this list pointed me at curl and I took a little time to play with it (which was not the kind of time I would have needed to master, say, sed or awk).
For me it's important to be practical about find a decent solution to a problem, even if that might involve digressing a little from the original path. So I have no problems with people on this list offering shell script suggestions that can integrate with my AppleScript.
