I'm sure the list has changed and become less newbie-friendly in recent years, and lately I have started thinking 'why am I still here' on a regular basis.
Is anyone else thinking it's time to petition Apple for the creation of a new AS beginners list where 'old-school' scripters can still feel comfortable and useful peddling their archaic skill sets to curious and undemanding acolytes?
I usually stay out of these discussions because I still feel like a newbie, and out of my depth, and after sneaking in my cheeky shell question I should really stay quiet.
I agree with everything you said in your mail but as a comment on this as a whole I see a slightly broader spectrum.
I think that OSX has changed the way applescript works and also how it should be used, I feel as though even newbies should be embracing the use of shells in their scripts and for me personally I find the help on shell commands as useful and relevant as the applescript tips I pick up.
OK so this is an Applescript list. Agreed. But if there was a newbies list added to this I would think that I would be joining both anyway as I find a broad range of questions interesting and useful to read. I also agree that if this list continues that tolerance for a broad range of knowledge levels is important.
