Hi Michelle and Luther,

Goes to show one needs to take a break.
Thanks to you...I think I stumbled onto the approach. If indeed no message-id equals spam, then if there are x number of spams, looping x times and searching for e-mails with blank "" message IDs ( ALA Michelle below) should, theoretically move them. The key is that the IDing the exact spam is unimportant, as opposed to the duplicates. Any obvious flaws in this logic? :-)

OK, so once you have the array of message IDs, why not use them to move the mail? Like this:

tell application "Mail"
tell message viewer 1
set theMSG to (first message whose message id is "email@hidden ")
end tell
move theMSG to mailbox "INBOX_Duplicates"
end tell

That will move one of the duplicate messages, and it appears to work regardless of where the message is located.
