The answer is: In the user's /Library/Mail/Deleted Messages.mbox/
Messages folder.
The string "Deleted Messages" is stored in the preference file
"com.apple.mail.plist" in the key MailAccounts/0/TrashMailBoxName.
Maybe. First, that's actually a preference (see Preferences >
Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors > Move deleted messages to the Trash
mailbox); second, messages for an IMAP account aren't necessarily
stored on disk at all.
I ment to say... in the User's /Library/Mail/xxx/Deleted
Messages.mbox/Messages folder, where xxx is Mailboxes or an account
folder. In the Preferences the phrases "Move deleted messages to a
separate folder" and "Move deleted messages to the Trash mailbox" are
both used and seem to mean the same thing. (I hope...?)
Which brings up a new question: I'm writing a new handler that's
designed to copy Trashed and Sent mail documents to a Finder folder
and remove them from Mail ... so I've used Mail's applescript
commands to uncheck all of the "Store ... messages on the server"
boxes. I've never stored anything on a server, so I may be blind to a
problem here that someone who does store on the server might see. (?)
I suspect that the value of this key depends on the language
preference set in the International preference pane when the user
first used Mail.
I'd be surprised if that were the case -- it would mean that your
trash wouldn't work if you switched languages. Try changing
primary languages and see what happens.
That's good to know. I am going to hard code the strings "Drafts",
"Junk", "Sent Messages" and "Deleted Messages" and avoid reading
com.apple.mail.plist. Thanks.
