Quoting Wayne Melrose <email@hidden>:

So I guess my real question, is ..

	A) Could we expect a performance increase from running Applescripts
--> Indesign  on Leopard server?
	B) Are there any other glaring advantages we would get from using
server in such a way..?

I don't think so.

Server is optimized for . . . serving stuff like printers, calendars, files, web pages, and all that kind of jazz. These optimizations may actually reduce the performance of actual applications if (for instance) the GUI gets fewer CPU cycles because of server optimization than a client version would get.

In particular, I don't think that Applescripts or InDesign will work any better on Server.

As a matter of fact . . . other than some optimizations for 'server' tasks vs 'client tasks' . . . from what I read there isn't much difference between Server and Client other than Server having better GUI admin tools for doing 'server' tasks. Most of the services that Server provides can actually be provided by Client as well if you're willing to dive into the command line or run a third party GUI utility like some of those from cutedgesystems.com for mail, web, and dns.

Short answer . . . I don't think your colleague that made this recommendation has any technical justification for it. If so . . .I would be glad to know about it as well.
