I would like to add a text overlay to JPEGs using AppleScript or a Shell Script. Can anyone recommend some good ways to accomplish this? I will be using information in a FileMaker database for the text. I'm guessing that it's possible with an OSAX, a Shell Script and with application scripting.

Hi Jon,

I'd be tempted to have a look at ImageMagick if I was thinking about a shell solution. There's a bit of a learning curve but you can do some fairly useful stuff.

If you want to to script an application then I'd suggest a Photoshop - I've not much experience scripting Photoshop myself but I'd be very surprised if you couldn't script the addition of some text to an image.

Hope that gets you started.

Also, Smile is good at programmed graphics. I'm speaking about the version which is free (like in a free beer.)
